What is 'Good Deeds Day' about?

  • It all started with the OneAfrica executive committee having a conversation in the parking lot! Following some on-the-spot brainstorming, an invitation was extended by the Chairperson, Veronica, to like-minded friends to scope ideas for doing good in the community. This was facilitated by a Zoom meeting.

  • As a result, OneAfrica, in collaboration with supporters from the Southern African community, are embarking on a new and exciting initiative aimed at helping those in need, on a shoestring budget!

  • Our new venture, called “Good Deeds by OneAfrica”, is a simple gesture of charitable giving to a family, school, organisation or community in need. It involves giving our time, skills and knowledge to a dedicated undertaking over a period of 24hrs to brighten someone’s day or lighten their load.

  • Planned activities include: Cleaning someone's home, doing their gardening, cooking a meal for a family, doing someone's grocery shopping, preparing goodie bags with essentials, etc.
  • Planned community focus areas include: Schools, facilities, orphanages, Women’s Refuge, retirement homes, Burns unit at Middlemore hospital, etc.

Currently, Good Deeds operates within Auckland only however, as this initiative grows, our reach will expand to help the wider community in other ways. We will feature our projects on our website and Facebook page, so please keep an eye out!

FUNDRAISING EVENTS

How are we funded?

  • The 'Good Deeds' team have each made a personal monetary contribution towards the first project and will continue to do so for future undertakings.
Donations To ensure sustainable growth, we are appealing to friends, family and members of the community to make a donation of any amount towards future projects. The donation can be one-off, monthly or anytime as the giver is able to provide. A receipt will be provided and a donation tax credit can be claimed for amounts of $5 and more. Please note that in order to claim, the IRD requires that the donation receipt be made out in your full name (so you cannot claim for an anonymous donation).
Fundraising We will host various fundraising activities, with all monies raised going towards Good Deeds Day.
